About AXA & Net Zero
AXA Switzerland aims to achieve net zero emissions in its operations by 2025. This means that the company's remaining carbon emissions will be removed from the atmosphere and saved in the long-term through climate protection projects. AXA wants to make a sustainable contribution to the future that goes far beyond its core business.
Challenge
AXA is a leader in the insurance industry on the topic of sustainability. When it comes to carbon emissions reductions focusing on Scope 1 & 2 is needed to create a meaningful impact. In Switzerland, they sought ways to ease the path toward climate action among their main group of clients: SMEs. The challenge was that “sustainability” is not broadly understood and is far from the reality of most SMEs. The key challenge was to find an approach to bring about greater awareness of the topic simply and quickly.
Solutions
AXA turned to Pelt8 to collaborate on creating a “CO2-Quickcalculator”. The goal was to develop an assessment in the form of a questionnaire which could be answered in under 5 minutes, have less than 20 questions and provide high-level insights into a company’s carbon footprint.
The project was led by the Open Innovation team and lasted about 1.5 months when Pelt8 created the methodology and data model to be able to have an assessment across all major industries and all cantons. Once the groundwork was completed and after positive reviews internal and external sustainability experts, the API was handed over and integrated into the SME section on their website.
